Estoril Festival was founded in the mid seventies on an attractive seaside town, nearly Lisbon. Taking place from July to September in Lisbon is the BaixAnima street festival with the lower district of Lisbon transformed in a celebration of one of the biggest and most exciting parties. Baixa Pombalina is the setting for this colourful and lively event comprising a grid of 18thcentury shopping and commercial streets facing the river Tagus. An elegant district. Through a series of staged weekends the streets are filled with fun festivities, live music, circus acts with jugglers, theatre productions, street entertainment, sports, colourful outfits, musicians, mime artists, and costumed parades. Be prepared for lots of lovely noise. The locals all congregate on the various squares and street corners, where impromptu stages are set up, to enjoy the free entertainment in a lovely setting.
The Sintra music festival is a combination of classical music, recitals, concerts and ballet with Portuguese and international performers. The events take place at various locations in the Sintra area including the Palacio Nacional. Some of the world’s best pianists and composers are bringing music to the UNESCO World Heritage village of Sintra, north of Lisbon for the Sintra Festival from 22 June until 10 July. This year’s festival presents a retrospective of the 150 years before Mahler, from mid-18th century to the romanticism of Schubert and Brahms.
