As you might expect from a city the size of Berlin, The ISTAF Athletics Tournament is one of the biggest events in world athletics with 16 different events for both males and females. Part of the IAAF World Challenge, the tournament dates back almost seventy years this July. Some of the best athletes in the world will take part in a top notch hop skip and jump with the occasional hammer and javelin throw in for good measure. Jolly good fun.

And for the less professional amongst us there is always the Berlin Triathlon where you too can test your mettle in what is the biggest race of its kind in central Europe. Swim, cycle and run your way around Treptower Park this July.

Dropping things down a notch, the Beach Dodgeball World Championship is a hugely fun and entertaining competition held this July, with different nations competing in exciting beach dodgeball matches and at the live music, beach parties and delicious food from all over the world after. Someone’s gotta do it.

Now for this one you need a head for heights and nerves of steel (especially to keep down all that beach party food). Its freeclimbing. Don’t settle for climbing on low walls in your local gym, instead test yourself at the T-Hall climbing centre in Berlin where 11 metre walls are on offer in a massive complex. If that isn’t enough for you, then check out the Magic Mountain Climbing Centre where wall heights reach 16 metres. Enough to drive you up the …….

Always great fun watching the Dragonboats Berlin Association launch their stunning vessels onto the water and race around the Spree river, thrilling the spectators who have a fantastic view from the safety of the shore. Now that sounds more like it
